The Managed Security Forum (MSF) is a community that facilitates communication and collaboration between Managed Security Providers. It offers thought provoking events and proactive engagement with government and regulators. The group also provides a confidential environment for Managed Security providers to share, and learn from, in-depth knowledge and practical experience.
The MSF harnesses relationships and experience from government and the private sector to advocate for the managed security industry as a whole. Through working together, participants can avoid the major expenditure required to reach the same goals on their own.

MSF members agreed that a lack of buyer awareness was holding back the sector, and the marketing tactics of many security companies was not helping. The group resolved to undertake a research project that used anonymised feedback from all UK Managed Security Providers to create a buyers’ guide to managed security.
Managed security covers a large number of providers offering a broad range of capabilities to companies of differing size, but this does not mean that there cannot be agreed definitions for the most common and important capabilities. The primary aim of this report is to propose a standard taxonomy for these services that can help buyers to assess providers and ultimately ensure better security outcomes.
